While getting your Cayman Islands holiday, make sure to attend a show by the ‘Barefoot Man’. George Nowak (the Barefoot Man), was born in Germany (or Austria, dependant upon the source) but is currently as much a part of the Cayman Islands as much locals. He has lived and played there since 1971 after a time period of island hopping which included Hawaii and also the Bahamas.
His songs are mainly a risqué parody set to calypso, reggae, country or pop music. For those who have seen the film ‘The Firm’, you would then have heard Barefoot’s music. He wrote the song ‘Money, Money, Money’ which is singing from the background while le South bay resort was dancing.
Barefoot not only writes and performs his own songs, he also owns the record company that records and sells his CDs (seen in most stores on Grand Cayman). They have also branched over to The Bahamas, where one of his albums is in the most notable Ten for four years.
His songs include ‘Ship Faced’, ‘Ship Song’, ‘Save the Lap Dance for Me’ and ‘Thong Gone Wrong’. He also sings about Cayman current affairs and wrote ‘The Gay Cruise Liner Song’ right after the visit by way of a Gay Cruise. One reviewer stated how the Barefoot Man won a Grammy Award for ‘Gone Coconutz’, that has been written after 85dexrpky devastating Hurricane Ivan, although I have got been struggling to find this album or artist listed in the Grammy Archives.
No Cayman Islands holiday is done without catching a show with the Barefoot Man. He can be obtained with the Reef Hotel every Tuesday and Thursday night. The Reef is definitely the only 100% beach front hotel on Grand Cayman.
John has completed the on-line training course given by the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism, which included a vacation to Grand Cayman and Little Cayman to go to various hotels, sample a number of the restaurants and to participate in a variety of places of interest.
